To make CLEAR/TRANSPARENT decals:
Detailed Instructions are included with the paper.
Print on the glossy side of the paper. In
general selecting the transparency setting in your printer driver gives
the best results. Our new Inkjet Aqua Slide decal paper works well with
any "dye based ink" Inkjet printer.
Before sliding the decal off the paper using water you must seal the
inkjet ink on the special coating by using clear spray or decal fixative.
If you are using Krylon spray then follow the instructions on the spray can.
If you are using the PAPILIO CLEAR Decal fixative. Then pour a small amount over the image (the decal) and let it sit on the
decal for about 10 seconds and gently move the puddle around, then wait a few
seconds. Without applying pressure on the decal, use the
foam pad (foam pads are included if you order the decal fixative from the
manufacturer) to move the excess fluid off and over the edge of the paper onto
a piece of cardboard and discard, leaving an even coating on the image.
Let dry for a few hours or overnight. A second coat may not even be needed. Using clear acrylic fixative or oil enamel may also give good
results for most applications. For professional waterslide decals we
however recommend the decal fixative sold by the manufacturer. It will
last longer than acrylic spray and remains clear and flexible. To make permanent production decals you
could use an even stronger solution, being the liquid urethane (not to
be confused with poly-urethane sold in hardware stores for wood finish).
Applying the decal.
Cut out the image with scissors. Dip in warm water (not hot). The paper
will roll up and then straighten out again.
When the film starts to loosen from the paper, place the paper on the
substrate to be decorated, and slide the paper from under the decal.
Work out air bubbles with a decal squeegee and let dry. It is important
to remove all of the water and air.
DO NOT cut out the decal first and then apply the solution.
The edges
of the paper will absorb the liquid, making it impossible to later slide
the decal off of the paper.
